We believe that Interfaces must 1. be usable; 2. be understandable; 3. not be contradictory; 4. minimize users' efforts; 5. work. Translations must 1. precisely convey the meaning, style and emotional colouring of the source; 2. comply with the norms of the target language; 3. conform to the norms of the society which they are intended for. Texts must 1. be readable; 2. be understandable by the audience which they are written for; 3. be free from spelling and other mistakes. Web sites must 1. load quickly even through a very modest dial-up connection; 2. show correctly in all the browsers; 3. look nice when printed; 4. use meaningful gaphics and animations only and if they are really necessary. Design is valuable neither itself nor due to its beauty, but only if it provides functionality, exactly as a packaging is not more important than what is wrapped in it. |
